Hello
I am Toni Watkins and thank you for visiting my website.
Often I am
asked what was the impetus for the show. The answer comes
easily; young people are often the most overlooked group
of American citizens; people assume that because we are young
we are only interested in partying, playing games, and watching
television. While these things may be attractive, we are
much more than pleasure seekers. We are thinkers, doers,
future educators, lawyers and doctors. I recognize that often
the reason we do not speak out on things going on in the
world is because many times people don’t want to hear
what we as young people have to say. They assume that because
of our age we have nothing to offer, they are wrong. We have
a lot to say and The Toni Watkins Show is a place where we
can say it.
In
part, I do the show because to not act on my vision of giving
a voice to our future leaders would in essence have given credence
to the belief that we are a hedonic generation. Ultimately, my
decision to do the show is related to my
belief in the scripture… “To whom much is given, much is expected.”
At the time of this writing, I am 17 years old and a first year student at Agnes Scott College, a liberal
arts school located in Atlanta, Georgia. I am majoring in Psychology and Pre-Medical
Studies. While in high school, I played the Alto Saxophone in the marching band
and Wind Ensemble and worked as a peer tutor. I enjoy mountain climbing; at age
12 I climbed to the summit of Mount Saint Helens. I also enjoy politics, reading,
listening to, playing, producing and mixing music, and writing.
A defining moment in my life was when I realized the impact that I have on other
people and how I am able to influence decisions that may affect the rest of their
life.
